Peer-to-peer and peer-relayed content distribution protocol research
P2P Proxy cache project
- More than 70 percent of P2P file sharing traffic is redundant
- The P2P proxy/cache project aims to solve the problem with the massive ammounts of data that P2P file sharing networks create by massively reducing the unnecessary redundancy
- By exploiting a found attack vector in the currently most popular and perspective P2P protocol - BitTorrent, it enables the ISPs to stop fighting P2P and instead cooperate with the community on creating a more effective hybrid P2P network model
- The P2P proxy/cache is an extremely lightweight and simple win-win solution when comparing with other similar approaches with at least the same or even better performance
- P2P proxy/cache is completely transparent and does not require any change in the used SW on the client side nor on the trackers
- Its HW requirements are comparable to a normal file server for that given bandwith as it does not need to process the whole P2P traffic but only a few packets per session
- This project is in beta testing stage
_____________
The OPEN network project
- Mobile Ad-hoc Networks represent the next emerging Peer-to-peer technology
- The OPEN Network project aims to bring MANETs into every-day life of broad masses
- Enables the building of autoconfigured, self-managed, self-protecting, self-optimizing multi-hop Ad-hoc WiFi networks using the existing technology and devices
- Motivates to join by enabling completely new usage scenarios, as for example multi-hop P2P VoIP (multi-hop push-to-talk on WiFi) without any server, account or configuration, multi-platform, directly from your mobile phone or any other device
- It aims to enable fast, reliable and no-configuration multi-platform multi-hop wireless networking starting from SOHO enviroment up to citiwide MANETs
- Supports all Windows, Linux, BSD, MAC devices, almost all SOHO routers, Windows CE/Mobile devices, and even the iPhone or Android platform devices like the G1 (our own port)
- Easy instalation and no configuration required
- Optimizes the topology so that maximum of data flows thru nodes without battery concerns and only if no other option exists thru battery powered nodes
- Reduces the power consumption on battery powered nodes by further optimization strategies as for example enabling higher OSI layers only when the given SSID is detected on L1
- Builds upon the Live and Let Live strategy awarded with the strategy award on the MANIAC Challenge 2007, Washington DC
- The goal is to minimize all negative side-effects to a level that the users won't be able to find a reason not to use this technology
- Builds upon the success of other open-source community MESH/MANET projects as: www.freifunk.net , the FON project and simmilar
- Uses the higly optimized OLSR-NG routing protocol
- Open-source and community based, uses community to test and gather statistical data, by its scope (device/platforms supported) it can be clasified as one of the biggest wireless experiments ever
- Project in in Alpha stage
